57:9-10
Gratitude can keep us happy, brothers and sisters, even when life brings challenges and sadness. Let’s gather this morning with joy in God’s presence. Today, we’ll explore Psalm 57:9, which says, “I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.” Through this verse, we’ll learn why praising God with gratitude is so important. This message will lift our spirits and help us honor God’s greatness.
Three Reasons for a Heart of Gratitude
Gratitude Because God Is Holy
Brothers and sisters, the first reason we should have gratitude is that God is holy! Psalm 106:47 says, “Save us, Lord our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.” God is holy, and because of that, He rescues us from sin and leads us to live holy lives.
Think about it—how many times have we been stuck in sin? But Jesus’ holy blood, shed on the cross, washed us clean and made us right with God. Can all the good things we do cover up our sins? No! Only Jesus’ blood was enough. When we see His holiness, how can we not say, “Lord, thank You!”? Because He is holy, He can make us holy too. This gratitude fills our hearts with joy.
Gratitude Because God Is Close to Us
The second reason is that God is close to us. Psalm 75:1 says, “We praise you, God, we praise you, for your Name is near; people tell of your wonderful deeds.” Brothers and sisters, no one in this world can come as close to us as God does.
Remember the man with leprosy. Everyone stayed away from him—his wife, children, and friends didn’t come near. But Jesus went to him and said, “I am willing, be clean!” With that touch, his life was healed! When you feel alone or sad, know that God is right there with you. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in the fiery furnace, God was with them as the fourth person, and not even the smell of fire touched them! Seeing how close He is, how can we not say, “Lord, praise You!”? This gratitude keeps us joyful in His presence.
Gratitude Because God Is Our Savior and Answers Us
The third reason is that God is our Savior and answers our prayers. Psalm 118:21 says, “I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.”
When Elijah prayed with passion, God stopped the rain for three and a half years. When he prayed again, God sent rain. In Matthew 15:36, it says, “Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people.” Jesus thanked God, and a miracle happened! How many times has God answered your prayers in your life? Remember those answers and say, “Lord, thank You!” as a testimony. This gratitude honors God, shames the devil, and encourages other believers.
Prayer: Giving Thanks to God
Loving Father, we give You thanks with all our hearts. You are holy and washed us clean with Your blood, making us holy too—thank You, Lord! You stay close to us and comfort us when we’re alone—praise You, Lord! You are our Savior and answer our prayers—glory to You alone! Fill everyone hearing this message with joy and peace, and meet their needs, we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!
